Override values in part of a scene

Hi.
Sorry I'm not exactly sure how to word this - but if a describe what I would like to do, hopefully someone can help.
Lets say I have 5x backlights and 5x wash lights in a scene, all intensity values set. (All are single channel fixtures - nice and basic).
I currently have one button in the virtual console to bring that up (easy - done).
I then want another button, that toggles just one of these sets (the wash lights) to fade up/down from as set currently, to zero when clicked (and vice versa).
Currently I just have two scenes, with all 10 fixtures values set.
But this means I have to update the values for the backlights to a specific level in both scenes, if I need to change these down the track.
I don't really want this, as if/when these levels need adjusting over time, they will need to be updated in both scenes, rather than just the main scene that has both running.
Is there a away to override whatever the washes are set to with a fade to black (or some low value) on these only, without affecting the backlights, then - when released - it returns the wash to whatever they were at before, set in the main scene?
To try and explain it another way:
Main Scene 1 - 5x backlights set to 80%, washes set to 50%
Dim Scene 2 - 5x backlights set to 80%, washes at 0%
And then - toggle between.
BUT - as I have it currently, if I later update backlights to say 70% or whatever - I don't want to have to update both scenes - just the main scene.
In the real world these are all slightly different values of course, and it's in a fixed studio environment, with many different operators running it etc.
In summary - I just want a button the pushes all the washes down to zero, and when released, returns them to as set Main scene 1, without affecting the backlight values at all.
I hope this all makes sense!!
Thanks heaps, and sorry for the poor description!
