No big thing, but it would be nice to start a show file in play mode or edit mode. Reason for this is because I've done several lighting installs in venues with QLC+. Being able to start in play mode would help a lot in situations where someone at the venue other than me can start it up easily.

Have a look at Kiosk Mode: https://docs.qlcplus.org/v4/advanced/kiosk-mode.

It is specifically meant for situations
"when your lighting needs to be operated by inexperienced people, or you just want to prevent unwanted changes".

Thanks, but I would like to see something more intuitive.

Explain?
When you want to drive your car, you have to unlock your doors, insert the ignition key, and press the brake pedal.

I don't need it totally locked. I just need a simple way to have that choice, like a check box or something. Nothing too complicated, just so the bartender at the venue can turn it on without me have to explain 500 times about the little green play icon.

Again Kiosk mode ;-) And at the same time you can preload QLC+ with your project and nobody can tamper with it.
I have quite some fixed installs running under my auspition. I regularily use a Raspberry Pi as engine in those cases. Even with a 2nd display used at the DJ booth...

I'm not comfortable using the command line interface. There should be some simple GUI way to do a kiosk mode. And it should do it with individual show files and not the entire program.

I'm completely happy with Kiosk Mode as it is and it took me (less than) 5 minutes to set it up.
So now you want QLC+ to be changed and you are asking me and all other users to adapt to another way of working with no other argument than "I'm not comfortable using the command line interface"?

I invite other QLC+ users to react.

My 5 cents to this. You want to start QLC+ and load a show in edit mode. It's very easy: qlcplus -o MyShow.qxw
If you want to do the same in operation mode: qlcplus -o MyShow.qxw -p
QLC+ command line options are there to configure how do you want QLC+ to start
If you want to start QLC+ in edit mode, how do you load your project?. You have to instruct your operator to load a show file.
If you load QLC+ in operate mode you have to instruct your operator to load a show file.

The QLC+ kiosk mode is for automate some things in one click executing QLC+ with some options via shortcut. Executing QLC+ with some parameters to achieve a desired final result. Set up the program, load a workspace, and activate the operation mode. Activating kiosk mode in edit mode makes no sense to me. Kiosk mode (the word already says it) is to automate QLC+ startup, load workspace, activate operation mode, and prevent users from making changes to Show settings.

Thanks for the input. We all understand how to launch QLC+. But believe me, instructing a bartender or security person at a venue is another story. I still get calls sometimes from someone at the venue who can't get it working. Being able to start up in operation mode would certainly help.

OK, so if I use the command line to start in operation mode, how do I shut down when QLC+ won't shut down in operation mode?

If you were willing to read the on line manual https://docs.qlcplus.org/v4/advanced/kiosk-mode, you could find:
-c 500,10,32,32 creates a close button with size of 32x32 pixels, 500 pixels from left and 10 pixels from top.

For a screen with 1920 * 1080 resolution i use -c 1806,0,54,42

So do you have to put the QLC+ program on play/kiosk mode or can you do it to an individual file. Started playing with it on my backup laptop and not having any luck with a show file.

So far I got the program itself to open on operate mode but can't get a show file to open in operate mode. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

I'm doing it according to the user manual. Create shortcut for the program, right click the shortcut for properties, in the target field enter -o file name.qxw, and it still just launches the program but not the show file.

Thanks again to everyone for the help!

If your showfile has a space in the title you have to encapsulate it by " ".
The source of your shortcut should look like this then: C:\system\QLC+\qlcplus.exe --web -o "LTP demo.qxw" -p -k

We also don't know what you are doing wrong. If you want us to help you, you need to provide us with more information.

The Windows short cut i use is:
C:\QLC+\qlcplus.exe -k -f -o Advanced.qxw -p -c 1806,0,54,42

C:\QLC+\qlcplus.exe will start QLCPLUS. (That is if you did install QLC+ in the Default Lib, otherwise you need to specify the path to where you installed it).

-k will start in Kiosk Mode.

-f will start in Full Screen Mode

-o Advanced.qxw will open my workspace Advanced.qxw (which is in the same lib as qlcplus.exe. If your work space is in a different lib you need to specify the path.
To be sure if your Workspace has a different name, you need to replace "Advanced" with the name of your file).

-p starts operate mode

-c 1806,0,54,42 creates the Close Button

Set your Start Library to C:\QLC+ (if you did install QLC+ in the Default Lib).

4.13.1, Windows 10

The QLC+ app is in the default lib (in the QLC+ folder at the root level of the C drive).

The show file(s) I want the shortcut to open are on the desktop.
