[4.10.1/Linux] Unable to assign left and right arrows to functions

I like to have the left and right arrows of my keyboard to function as switchers between pages.
Problem is, I can't assign them. Up and Down works right.
When using the numpad, the Key combination box displays some garbled characters, which looks a bit like a problem with encoding to me.
I have attached a picture of what happens, when I press '2' on the Numpad, when in NumLock mode. When Numlock is disengaged, a similar pattern appears.
Haven't tested this on Windows yet; it might be specific to Linux.
