Can't connect MIDI input directly to fixture dimmers

Or is this not possible?
I had a hope I could you our Behringer LC2412 (MIDI-OUT) to control QLC+ (MIDI IN). I get the Joystick and all, but I can't control the sw faders or the DMX output.
I tried to look at the "Simple Desk" page. Nothing happens there when I move the faders.
My hopes was that I could set a scene with the LC2412 faders, and then record this as a scene in QLC+.
What I got working, was to set up one fader on Virtual Console, and attach it to External input from MIDI. That worked, but unfortunately only in operating mode.
How can I use the LC2412 as a wing in programming mode? And how will it connect fader 1 on LC2412 to the DMX #1 ?
