Q Light Controller+

Let me explain what I would like to be able to do:

I have two shows. All of the same scenes, collections, EFX, and fixtures are in both. The older one has a configuration in the Virtual Console for some lights that I didn't think I was going to use anymore. The newer show does not have that particular set of frames for those lights. Again, all of the fixture definitions, scenes, etc are there in both shows.

I want to be able to copy/paste that one large frame (66 buttons and 6 sliders) from one virtual console in the old show to the virtual console of the new show.

Is there a way I can do that? There are many scene, collection, and efx changes in the new show so I can't just go back to the old show. I know I should have just left the frame in the virtual console and hidden it but I really thought I was going to sell the lights. Now I've decided I am not and don't want to have to recreate those 66 buttons.

I tried just standard copy/paste but once I closed the show and opened the other my copy wasn't in the clipboard anymore.

You could try opening the show file in a text editor and copying the virtual console configuration from one show file to another. It's just XML. I have hand edited the XML several times. I use this to copy a scene configuration from one scene to another existing scene. I do this because once I create a show sequence it is easier (for me) to do this than to replace the existing scene wherever it is referenced (chase/collection/etc.)

The key will be the id's referenced by the VC widgets. I would certainly recommend keeping your original files and saving to a new file to avoid the possibility that you create a completely useless file.

I have done what you suggested. I just picked up all the XML code for the frame and copied it into the newer show. I am at work so I don't have lights to test with but just using the DMX monitor and watching the channel values everything seems to be doing what it's supposed to, without changing any ids.

Thank you so much for the suggestion. Knowing that the shows are just XML files really opens the door to being able to play around at a more complex level than just creating new shows.
