What DMX interface?

Sorry if this has been asked...
Search terms are "too common" is my search results...

What is the preferred USB to DMX interface that works with QLC?

I have an ENTTEC compatible FTDI device that I want to use, but the RPi won't boot with it plugged in. I have the new RPi with the 900mhz quad, and 1G mem running Raspbian Debian Wheezy.

I'm looking to create a self contained DMX system to replace my desktop system running freestyler with this same USB to DMX interface.

New to QLC...
Where do I start?

Is your adapter working on QLC+ desktop version ?

In general, though, don't expect a Raspberry Pi to fully replace a PC, especially for the project design phase.

The Rpi quad (aka Rpi2) is useful for editing projects. I have no problems with the new generation.

I have not tried QLC on the desktop. It works fine with freestyler as mentioned. However, when plugged into the USB port on the RPi2, it simply will not boot up.

Without actually getting this to work, I won't know if it can handle the task or not, but I certainly am going to try. From the RPi1 videos I've seen on DMX, I'm thinking it will be able to handle my needs, but again, won't know until it's been tried.

I'm not certain, but I'm thinking the Open DMX interface I have will likely put more load on the processor. If there is a different unit, reasonably priced that will work with RPi, and take some of that load off the processor, I'm interested as well.

QLC+ is not Freestyler. Try on a PC first.

For that video I used an Enttec Open compatible adapter, but that doesn't mean they are all the same.

This is a mere assumption without a technical base.
Does the image boot up correctly without the adapter ?
What happens if you connect the adapter once the RPi is booted up ?
Do you see the adapter listed with lsusb ?
Do you see the adapter mapped on a /dev/ttyUSB device ?
Are you sure the image flashed on the SD card is not corrupted ?

That may be. I'm no expert. This is simply the impression I've gotten in doing some research on interfaces.

Yes! It's only a problem when plugged in.

This is something I've yet to try.

?????

??????
Keep in mind I am a RPi and Linux newbie.
Are you sure the image flashed on the SD card is not corrupted ?
It may be, but It does everything else fine to my knowledge.

It was a Noob loaded version of the image.

Just for the records. I have been using two models of "DMX512 USB to DMX Interface Adapter Computer Software Satge Lighting Controller" from ebay successfully with the RPi. One is a cable only output version (18€). The other has a small plastic box with two leds on it and an USB cable for input and DMX cable for output (27€). Both have worked with no flaws for controlling a show in a small theatre.

Hi Karri, can you please share the links to the ebay pages of those adapters ?
Might be useful to other users. Thanks !

Here are both links (and the sellers I bought them from). The more expensive with leds.

The cheaper with just a cable.
