TCP/IP Control

We have a small multiuse theatre and I am currently upgrading our lighting from an old Horizon system . I bought an ENTTEC Home DMX USB PRO Mk2 and hoping to use QLC+ for the control software. I'd like to be able to trigger scene selections from our movie playback server (dorimi DCP-2K4) so that the whole system can be automated. Is there anyway to send QLC+ TCP text commends to trigger scenes? It would seem that a TCP/IP input/output plugin would be useful?

Hello to you.
Even if someone is willing to pick this task up, how would we be able to test the code if we don't have a DCP-2K4 (which I suppose costs thousands of $) ?

To me it sounds too much like a niche application.

With the documentation that can be found on the Doremi website, the DCP seems to uses a Debian operating system. But there is no specific information on how to interact with the DCP via TC/IP or other methodes.

Instead of a DCP-2K4 (I'd love to play with one ;) ), why not use a Raspberry Pi instead for your media server?

Boxy, I guess you're comparing a Boeing 747 to a mosquito... :)

Hollywood movies have to be played on very specific servers that certified by the movie industry. The deliver movies in a format called DCP.

Hi Massimo,

Yes a DCP-2K4 is a very expensive machine. However there are tons of software tools that can act as TCP clients or servers. I often use something called Hercules setup utility for this type of testing/development. http://www.hw-group.com/products/hercules/

I wasn't thinking of a dorimi specific solution. All kinds of professional gear networks together these days using a text based command set over serial ports and/or TCP ports for automation. For example I was envisioning something that accept commands maybe something like the following:

channel 1.3=144
group dsl=60
scene trailers
chaser play Fundy Film
channel 2.50=30%
etc...

Anyway it might be way to much work. Maybe there is a way that I can build (or find) a software adapter that takes network text commands from the DCP-2K4 and turns them into a protocol that QLC+ already supports such as Artnet, E1.31 (sACN), MIDI, or OSC? That way QLC+ wouldn't have to change but I still could get automation triggers to it?

It all documented in the DCP-2K4 manual. I use TCP commands to talk to a Dolby CP650 audio sever, a HDMI matrix switch, an Oppo Blu-ray player, etc. This type of automation isn't specific to doremi, its quite common on gear.
