Q Light Controller+

I'm new to QLC+. I just created my first show for a Not-For-Profit theater in New York. This is the first package I've found that allows me to combine lights, audio and video in a single program. Thank you, Massimo.

Now for my problem. I have the software installed on a Windows Vista x64 Dell Latitude D-630 laptop with 8gb of RAM and a 2.6ghz processor. It has a builtin SigmaTel sound card. My DMX interface is the Enttec OpenDMX USB.

All of my sound files are mp3's. When I play them through QLC+ some of them have this weird clicking or modulation, but if I play the exact same sound file through Windows Media Player, they sound fine. I noticed the problem first with wav files. The files sounded better once I converted everything to mp3, but they still don't sound as clean as Windows Media Player.

I'm wondering it the problem has anything to do with a missing codec within QLC+ or possibly an invalid file configuration (wrong sample rate, bit depth, etc.)

Has anyone else seen this?

I guess I should also mention that I downloaded the Windows installer. I didn't compile my own version.

I think I have heard something wrong too on my Windows 7.
On Linux no issues.

Hi, I think I found and fixed the audio playback issue on Windows.
I'll try to share a TEST build as soon as possible.

I have another laptop available that I may try loading with Linux. Is there a particular distribution that people are using that seems to work better than others?

As for Linux, no idea really. Everyone has their own particular preference for a distribution.
If you haven't ever used it before, then I guess Ubuntu could be where to start.
I think it is the most used around.

At the moment I stopped on Mint 17 KDE version.

Things are better for wav files, but mp3 files still have a problem. I can convert all my mp3's, so I can use this version.

One interesting problem I ran into, I had a file with ~ and @ embedded in the file name, and when I tried to play the file, QLC+ crashed. Not a big deal, I just remove those characters from the name and it played fine.

I recently started using QLC plus and I ran into a similar problem - .wav files have that clicking sound, but .mp3 files are fine. I use the shows tab to make a light show synchronized to a metronome track. I import the metronome track as a .mp3 file. Sometimes the audio crashes for less than a second and that makes the metronome track skip and that's a bit of an issue while playing live to that click track. I will check out that last test version, and write again.
(I am using QLC Plus with an Enttec Open DMX USB, on a laptop with Windows 7)

Just a little more info. I re-imported some of my mp3 tracks, just to make sure it wasn't the import process that was causing the problem. The mp3 tracks still sound bad, but the wav files sound perfect now.

Hello Ken, glad to hear something has improved.
I tested the change with MP3s at 320kbps and they played fine.
Can you please tell me some more info about the MP3 that sounds bad for you ?
E.g. bitrate, sample rate, etc..

I will make another test build with the audio buffer increased again but I want to make sure that's the right direction.

Sorry Massimo, I was away from it for a few days. I'll download the latest version and test it on Friday, when I'm back in the theater. Thank you again for your quick response.

I wasn't able to test it until this evening. Unfortunately, the patch actually made the mp3 files worse. Wav files are still fine, but mp3's appear to be slower and have a weird vibrato now.
