Hi there,
I've used QLC previously on the Mac but with the recent rash of FTDI driver issues, I've decided to try running QLC+ in a Virtual Machine running Windows 8.
So far, I've been able to get the UltraDMX Configuration tool to see the device on COM3 and been able to use the same tool to send DMX. My test fixture responds as expected on the correct channels.
But when I connect the hardware in the Inputs/Outputs tab of QLC+ nothing comes out. It shows a serial number (starts with 6A) and correctly determines the profile as OpenTX (I think).
But if I go to the Simple Desk tab and try to turn on the channels, I don't see any activity on my fixture.
When using the UltraDMX Configuration tool, I have observed that the LED on the USB DMX adapter pulses much more rapidly then when I'm trying to send signal using QLC+.
This lead me to believe that the device isn't receive any signal from QLC+.
Does the UltraDMX Configuration tool use the same drivers to talk to the device? It was working previously, but I thought maybe the drivers are different. I followed the instructions on the FTDI site to install the driver explicitly.
The UltraDMX Configuration tool still works after install, but QLC+ still does not.
My next course of action is probably to install Ubuntu on this same computer on a separate partition to see if maybe Mac OS X as the host OS is causing issues. But the fact that the UltraDMX Configuration tool was able to send DMX made me think the serial port was functional.
Can any of you suggest something I'm missing? A troubleshooting route I've overlooked? Or perhaps news that running in a VM is just a plain bad idea .
I'm all ears. Thanks for your time!
Steven
Attempting to use DMXking UltraDMX in Virtual Machine on Mac
Hello Steven, a DMXKing adapter is usually a Pro TX/RX or a Ultra Pro device.
If you see OpenTX then most likely it is wrong.
Does the device appear with a meaningful name ? Is the serial number detected correctly ?

Hi there Massimo. Thanks for replying!
I just went back to look at the device panel to record the serial number and realized that it was using the wrong profile. Switch it from the default Open method to one more suited to UltraDMX hardware and all was good.
Thank you!
