Newbie Question

Hi folks. Brand new user of QLC+ here. I have been using Chauvet ShowXpress before but have found limitations that I see are lifted very nicely with this software. Let me get to the point. I have a particular fixture (Chauvet 4BAR TRI). One of the channels is for Strobe control. I am creating scenes and Solo Frames for using it. I have several Solo frames created, one for color, one for brightness, and one for strobe. When I activate everything and select one of the brightness or color buttons I've created, the button becomes highlighted with a dark green border to show it's been selected and is active. But my solo frame for strobe doesn't do that. The buttons seem to work but they don't get highlighted which makes things confusing for me. I have deleted the buttons and the frame and re-done them all and I still get the same result. I am calling the Strobe channel an Effects channel. I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Can somebody help me to understand why most of my solo frames are doing exactly what I want but that one is not providing highlighting of the active button? I sure could use a suggestion.

Thanks ............ Rob

This is known not-very-fortunate behavior of LTP channels. Buttons that control only LTP channels do not stay on.

There are two ways to "fix" it - 1. set the strobe channel to LTP in channel properties window - http://www.qlcplus.org/docs/channelproperties.html
2. add dummy dimmer channel, and add it to strobe button(s)

Let us know if it helped or not!

Thank you very much for the response. I will try those things later tonight. Much appreciated.

OK HAVE TO ADMIT MY IGNORANCE. I CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHERE TO CHANGE THE CHANNEL TO LTP. I know you said the channel properties windows but I am confused over where that is exactly. I looked in the fixture editor and didn't see it. Will it say LTP? Can you guide me a little more please? Thank you much!

I changed that channel from Effect to Intensity and it works fine now. Thanks.

The best way to fix this is the way he did it... Set your strobe channel as generic intensity, otherwise it won't be released when you stop the strobe function. If your strobe setting is part of your fixture's dimmer channel (like Chauvet LED splash Jr.), then you need to set it as LTP, so your strobe function will pull it down to the strobe range. It now behaves the way a strobe channel should. Unfortunately, you lose the strobe icon for the channel. It would be nice if you could change strobe channels to work exactly like generic intensity, or just add a strobe option with the icon in the intensity group in the next release. Seems like it would be a quick and easy fix. :)

It's not in the fixture editor. It's in QLC+ on the fixture tab. Click the icon above the channel groups tab that says "Channels Fade Configuration".

This is the best way to fix a strobe channel. (I also came from ShowXpress, and FreeStyler)
