HID in 4.7.1 Windows not working?

I am prototyping some home made joysticks and find that in 4.7.0, the HID works fine: the joystick is recognised, auto detect sees the channels and the joystick controls the sliders and buttons as expected.
In 4.7.1, the device is seen in the mapping list on the Inputs/Outputs tab, but the auto-detect does not work at all - so there is no control via HID.
Can someone with a joystick please check if you can link sliders & buttons and then control them, using v4.7.1?
