QLC+ not passing ultraDMX MAX input to output.

Hi all.

The solution to this problem seems to elude me

The idea is very simple. I have a physical DMX controller to which I want to pass DMX data to Capture (Visualizer software).

I am going about my goal in the following way:

Physical DMX controller > ultraDMX MAX > QLC+ > Capture.

The physical DMX controller is outputting DMX values for sure.

The ultraDMX MAX is reading those values for sure. I can see this in the DMX Display of the eDMX Configuration Utility.

QLC+ is properly linked to Capture. How do I know this? I can move a fader in QLC and the corresponding channel in Capture is affected. Also, via ArtNetViewer, I can see that QLC is outputting ArtNet data.

Now my problem is that QLC seems to not be passing through, or maybe even receiving DMX data coming from the ultraDMX MAX.

The passthrough checkbox is checked, the ultraDMX MAX input is selected, the output is correct based on the previous statements, but nothing is passing through.

It seems like the input from the ultraDMX is not truly being passed through because if I unselect and select the tick box for the ultraDMX as input, some values that are being sent from the physical DMX controller actually do display within ArtNetViewer, but only for a frame and then it freezes at those values, although the DMX stream is continuous. So it seems that QLC may actually be reading the values from ultraDMX, but those values are not sent continuously as the physical DMX device sends new values.

What is the problem? Port forwarding? Something wrong with QLC? How can I resolve this?

Also, this is not an issue with QLC not supporting Input from ultraDMX MAX because, although in the docs it says that the ultraDMX MAX is supported as an output, it says the same thing for the uktraDMX micro, but I have seen it work as an input device to control Capture from an external physical DMX controller.

Any leads toward getting QLC to passthrough ultraDMX input data to the output would be appreciated! Thank you! :)

Have you patched enough channels?

Patch as much dimmer channels as needed in QLC+. I'm not sure, but it's possible that QLC+ forwards patched channels only.
Maybe it's enough to patch the last channel...

Welcome to the community,

Using the DMX monitor inside QLC+, you should be able to see the values entering. However, you might have to patch some dimmers before this works.
Once you verify that signals come in correctly, you can move to the output (or throughput) side.
The Artnet add-in has changed in the latest versions of QLC+, so be compliant with the standard. It might be necessary for Capture to change the settings to full-frame mode.

Thanks for the responses, but unfortunately, no, it does not work to pass an external DMX signal from a physical device, via ultraDMX MAX to Capture, even if I add dimmers for all of the channels the physical device is sending. It's an issue with QLC+. It simply does not want to passthrough an input DMX signal to the output in my case. Like I mentioned before, the ultraDMX config utility is showing me that values are going in from the physical device and everything is working normally, but the same is not shown in the QLC+ DMX monitor. Any other thoughts?

Thanks for reporting.
Then there is a regression issue with the driver for the ultraDMX Max input side of it.

Quick other question: are you sure you a) do not run the config utility with QLC+ simultaneously and b) that QLC+ is in operate mode?

[edit] Ow boy ... looking at the Compatibility list, the Ultra DMX max is quoted as 'output' only ... https://www.qlcplus.org/discover/compatibility; you will have to ask Massimo nicely if he would be so kind as to include the input mode of this device also.
