Smooth transitions between shows

Hi,
new to the software...I have seen couple of simmilar questions here, but didnt find any answer, that would help, so:
Using the 4.1.13 version, using the uDMX USB dongle by Lixada (I know...), and some general no name PAR leds (but I have tried with different Scanic and ADJ lights).
The problem is, that when I program a chaser and I want the lights to fade from one scene to another one, it is not smooth but rather steps incremental. It seems to be independent of the times. If its a short time it would go like 0-50%-100%, if its longer time it would go 10-20-30 etc. but never smooth.
The shows are with full master fader and full color chanel fader.
Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the community,
Does the DMX monitor reveal the same behaviour?

I suspect your DMX interface is the culprit. You might try using a different DMX interface bus frequency (timing).

With such an introduction it could also be that you are doing something wrong.
You need to be aware that the parameters you use, do need to make sense:
- if you use a Fade In time that is longer than the Hold Time of a Scene, that Scene will never reach full level.
- specific RGB Matrices that are meant to provide smooth color changes can be "killed" by adding a Fade In to it (certainly when that Fade In is too long in relation to the speed of the effect).
- you can both set a Fade In on your Chaser as well as on the Individual steps (Scenes, RGB Matrices) of this chaser: so then you are nesting a Fade In on a Fade In.
This might cause unwanted effects (for instance if the CPU of your computer and/or your Dongle is not fast enough to follow and becomes a bottle neck).
I suggest you post your QXW work file (as well as any custom made Fixture Definitions) so that other users can have a look.

Hello,
thank you for the quick response...I guess that you are right. Thank you for the DMX monitor, didnt know that it has the actual "real light" mode. Thats handy! Well, I guess you might be right with the device. Cause when I look at the parameters of the dongle, it says 30Hz. So if I understand it right, it can only send 30 changes per second, but if I have a one second long fade in time, and want to go smoothly from 0 to 255, it has to "skip" some steps. So I would need it to work at last 8.5 times faster for 1s fade in/crossfade times. However, I have seen in multiple forum posts recommandation for setting it to 30Hz (which I am currently trying to configure to higher frequency, cant find any settings for that neither in the QLC neither in windows settings). Cause if I hit the configure button for the uDMX the only option I have is to "rescan device".

Smooth dimming can also be achieved by using a modified dimmer curve in your fixture. A dimming curve will be noticed the most starting at 1/3th of the low level.

Thanks for the tip. Had the opportunity to try that now and its a little smoother, still not perfect. But for a 20bucks USB dongle its good.
