Q Light Controller+

Hey friends,

I have this vision of being able to mute specific audio channels to have complete control over which microphones on or off during certain scenes of a performance. We run into issues of our volunteer team not muting microphones when they should.

At our theater we have a professional sound mixing board called the Allen & Heath GLD 80. I can see on the back it has midi in and out plus ethernet. Here is the manual showing the back interface.

Do you know of a solution for connecting the laptop using QLC+ to be able to control the audio interface channel by channel? Or is it simply impossible?

After googling I saw something called Dante that looks like it networks between a computer and sound board with ethernet. Could this be the solution to connect to QLC+ ?

First, Dante. Dante is protocol for audio transfer over IP networks. This is of no use for you (it's used to send audio between e.g. mixing board and stagebox, or from wireless receivers, or to broadcast truck...)

Then, it seems that channel mutes use NOTE ON/NOTE OFFs, so that may be feasible to send from QLC+. I don't think ethernet will work - QLC+ can't send MIDI over ethernet, so unless you find some converter,
you are out of luck and have to use cables.

You have to create dummy universe with dummy dimmer channels that correspond to audio channels, and assign MIDI output in Note velocity mode.
Velocity > 40 is mute on. velocity < 40 is mute off. That means DMX > 40*2 = 80 is mute on, DMX < 80 is mute off.
