I'm still experimenting to find the best way to use X-Y pad, so i cannot tell you exactly how to solve your problem.
What i can do however is share with you what i've learned so far, maybe it will point you in the right direction.
If you go to the manual, you will find the Following:
The XY Pad allows 3 completely different usages, but all targeted to positioning. It's up to you to decide the best use of them depending on your needs. You also might want to consider the usage of multiple XY Pads with different purposes.
The manual then continues explaining the
3 different usages:
1- Absolute positioning
2- EFX
3- Relative to a Scene
Unfortunately it doesn't tell me how i can activate those different usages, but the remark to "consider the usage of multiple XY Pads with different purposes" challenged me to my experiment.
First I created a X-Y pad, added all my Wash Moving Heads and on the Presets Tab i
Only added EFX's.
I learned that
this turned the X-Y Pad in mode 2-EFX.
Furthermore i learned that if you connect 4 sliders (in this case from my Akai APC Mini) as External Control (on the first Tab), they will work on the Range Sliders.
So with those 4 sliders you can make make the Working Area of the X-Y pad Smaller (first JPG) or Bigger (second JPG), but if you keep the relative distance the same (meaning: Move 2 sliders together in the same direction) you can also move Up, Down, Left or Right.
(Next i replaced the fysical sliders of the APC by 4 LoopBack Sliders and added 4 additional LoopBack Sliders this time in Relative Mode to work on those sliders. This way i could create the Control Panel which is next to the X-Y pad in the sample JPG's. Be aware that it ignores any Rotation Value that is in your EFX, so i had to change all the EFX's i had created
).
Then I created another X-Y pad, again added all my Wash Moving Heads (so the same fixtures as before), but this time on the Presets Tab i
Only added Scenes (with only Pan - Tilt Values).
I learned that
this turned the X-Y Pad in mode 3- Relative to a Scene.
In This Mode you can only connect 2 sliders as External Control (on the first Tab), and now they will work on the Handles.
You can use the Handles to set the cursor to a position, but if you activate one of the Preset scenes, they will override this.
If you deactivate your preset, it will go back to the position you did set with the handles.
Maybe this may lead you to the solution you are looking for.
