Pi 4 now powerful enough to design on?

With the new, more powerful Raspberry Pi 4 units, are these machines now powerful enough to be used as the system to program on, and not just as a headless playback unit? Thoughts?

Depends on the size of the project.
For small projects I'd say yes.
One big limitation with the vanilla image is the lack of a window manager, so you can't move modal windows around.
This can be easily solved though by installing the official Debian package in a standard image with Xorg.

I was also considering that - putting a full Linux OS on the device (probably Ubuntu), and adding M.2 storage.
I was looking at this M.2 SSD drive:

Should provide 10X the storage speed at almost the same price for a good microSD card of that size (120 GB) at the same price (in the US)!
