16Bit Dimming

Really simple question is it possible to do 16bit dimming with qlc+ and if so how is this best achieved.

As answered in your other thread, no you cannot out of the box.
You could achieve 16-bit dimming by creating a custom fixture definition and depict 2 channels (pan course and fine f.i.) and use those to be able to dim in 16-bit resolution.
The only culprit will be the 'headers' showing PAN, where they are intensity in real life.
All electric machines work on smoke... when the smoke escapes... they don't work anymore

I confirm 16 bit fading is not supported at the moment.
It's in my plans, cause I understand it's a quite important feature we must have.

If not how do we apply an RGB matrix to the Pan channel as you've suggested as a workaround?

Adding PAN, as the work-around for 16b intensity channels, will not work in conjunction with the RGB matrix.
I also struggled with 16b resolution dim channels this weekend. I settled only using 8b (and a halogen profile inside the fixture, so slow in-between steps. A square-inverse dimming profile helped the noticeable dimming at lower levels.)

For your information, I've just made a change to support 16bit fading. A test version is available for Windows (4.12.5.137)
The only constrain is that target fine value should be equal to target coarse value. For example, Red and Red Fine both at 138.
Please test and let me know if it works as expected.

ehhmm ... will be hard to verify visually, because you would mimick an 8-bit dimming and this will be noticeable again.
1+1 10+10 20+20 30+30 ...
You need the in-between fine steps to reduce the visual noticeable change in (dim) levels.
