I have 2 Showtec Kango Spot 60 moving heads and would like to use them but restrict their movement to approx 90 deg on both pan and tilt so that they just play on the dancefloor. How do i achieve this?

In my real world cases I use channel modifiers - they are hefty to understand but magnificent in usage ...
Whatever position the heads are instructed to, the channel modifiers are limiting them to -keep your position.
Relative mode also helps... basic-position + EFX <- try that before channels modifiers manipulation.

II would like to jump onto this thread - as I am still having issues with limiting the movement of my moving heads, using teh XY pad, executing an efx.
I have qatched Mossimo's tutorial on efx. I have created an XY pad in my virtual console, added an efx preset. The heads are limited in movement when I use the XY pad - but the second I hit the efx, they go back to their full range of motion.
And I haven't found a video or a good tutorial walk thru to use the channel modifiers to limit motion. Do you have one?
Just in case - I have attached my workspace. Thanks for any help - I would really like to understand how to limit these heads!!!

Please include the custom built fixtures. I cannot show you how you can use channel modifiers without knowing which channel is pan or tilt...

Have You, or anyone managed to solve this problem? I've got the same struggle, eFx saved and add to an XY-pad, works in full range of motion regardless of the restrictions added to a device in XY-pad. I did everything exactly as it's shown in video #7, checked it on 3 newest releases of the software (on Mac), still the same issue.

You need to shrink the size of it probably

Perhaps I've found a solution. First of all I switched from 8 to 16bit mode to use fine channels as well. Then instead of restricting heads range in their properties I did it only with a green modifiable squared zone directly in XY-pad. Now everything works fine and efX'es added to XY-pad don't go beyond the restricted area.

If you absolutely never want to allow them to go outside of a given range, I would determine the DMX values for that range and then use custom dimmer curves to restrict them.

@jcwayne, sounds like a good Idea, thanks for the tip
