Understanding Cues and their duration

Hi there!
I'm new to QLC+. So far i use the simple desk. My background in DMX is mainly "classical" desks such as the Lightcommander II 24/6. I regularly use stuff by ETC and by ADJ. Especially the American DJ (ADJ) Scene Setter 24 is really convenient for simple purposes and I think QLC+'s simple desk comes quite close to this. With the enormous benefit of virtually infinitely many DMX channels.
Now what I don't really get is this thing with the cues in simple desk. I managed to get them to work so that when I click forward/backward arrows, the next cue gets selected and fade in/out times are used. However, cues also do have a duration. So I thought, is it possible somehow to auto-run those cues?
This would be quite convenient. Actually it's pretty much the behavior of the Scene Setter 24.
I understand that QLC+ offers a lot more than that, but what I need most often is a couple of scenes (some with lights automatically fading in/out or changing color) which can be dialed in on some faders. This basically does 95% of the stuff I have to do with light. So far the ADJ Scene Setter serves me well, but as more and more LED fixtures come up, I always run out of DMX channels.
Could somebody please shed some light on this cue duration thing?
Thanks in advance
