New User / problems with DMXKing UltraDMX Micro

I am a new user to QLC+, looking for an alternative to Rekordbox Lighting Mode with RB-DMX1. While the Rekordbox setup works for me I am looking for something more open that will let me see and change what is happening "under the hood", and to possibly integrate with Mixxx. I would also like a way to easilly implement a standalone controller for my two Gigbar2 bars plus some simple pars for uplighting. To that end I purchased an UltraDMX Micro dongle and have been attempting to get it to work with my Gigbar2s. I have tried the following with Ubuntu Linux 18.04, MacOS Mojave, and Windows 10 1903.
My understanding (posibbly misunderstanding) from reading online tutorials is that I should be able to install the Windows or Mac drivers (not needed for Linux) from the FTDI website, configure QLC+ with the the fixtures, turn on DMX USB [which shows "1: FT245R USB FIFO (S/N: AL05AQY4)"] output in the Inputs/Outputs tab, and control the fixtures from the Simple Desk tab and see the expected outputs when I adjust the sliders. So far, no luck with any of the three operating systems. The gree LED on the three pin putput connector blinks on and off steadilly at about 1 HZ. If I unplug the USB connector from the PC the SMX USB entry no longer shows a device. Reinserting the USB connector returns the "1: FT245R USB FIFO (S/N: AL05AQY4)" device listing.
If I try bringing up SoundSwitch the green LED flickers rapidly, but I am traveling and cannot see if it is actually working the lights. Is there something stupid that I am missing here?
Thanks,
LViejo (Jim to my friends)
