Live lighting fixture control

I primarily use QLC+ to control fixtures in live-lighting club based situations. Therefore, programming multiple scenes without knowing what I might actually need becomes tricky.
I have experience on an Avolites Peral desk, and there colours, gobos and movements could all be programmed for no specific moving head, and then that function applied to either a single fixture or group of fixtures to create many combinations of movements/colours without the need for 100 scenes including odd/even splits, left/right splits for every single possible combination.
Is something like this possible in QLC+, for instance, having 5 colour buttons on the virtual console that could be applied to only fixtures selected using another group of buttons?
Creative solutions also welcome, as I am sure there is a wealth of expertise in how others run live-lighting situations
