Fading of Chasers/Sequences using Submasters

Ask a generic question about the usage of QLC+, not related to a particular operating system

Hi there,

first of all my kudos for the work the developer(s) are putting into this project!
I use it a lot and I am pretty happy with the workflow and the result I can achieve with this tool! Thank you!

But now I am struggling to realize a specfic behaviour. I have found several other threads about submaster issues, but none of this has helped me to find a working solution.

My setup is:
  • Some Generic RGB Fixtures which are set in some scenes with different color setups
  • These scenes are put in a chaser with certain per step Fade-In and Hold-Times
  • Running the chaser creates some nice fades/blends between the colors as I expect. This is working fine.
  • In the virtual console I add a frame, a button and a slider (both inside the frame)
  • To the button I assign the chaser as on/off function
  • The slider is set into submaster mode
The problem is now following:
  • If I lower the value of the slider/submaster below 255, the color fades are not working anymore.
  • After each chaser step the color levels jump down the level of the submaster and then fade up again to level setup by the current scene. This is not wanted and doesn´t look very nice.
Maybe I am wrong with my understanding of the submaster mode. I thought it works like the GM slider, but just limited to the frame it is put into. Using the GM-slider does give me the result I expect. The color fades are working, but just dimmed down.

So what am I doing/understanding wrong? Any hints how to achieve the desired functionality?

For your info: I tested it on a WIN10x64 machine and on Kubuntu1804 x64. I tried the QLC 4.11.2 build and also the newest test build 4.11.2.234. Same behaviour on all version/machine configurations.

Thanks for your help!

Alex

Hey Alex, welcome to the forum!

I agree with you, in my understanding GM and submaster should not show a different behavior. So to me this sounds like a bug. Could you please post this issue in the issues report section, too (providing an example workspace showing the problem and exact steps to reproduce)? Thanks!
Let's see what Massimo is thinking about it..
