First Show-accolades and questions

Hi all,
so I had my first show and it went very well but then they wernt expecting much and some light is always wow compared to none ;)

I'm not convinced I,m working this right tho so im up for advice.

The gig: small music evening, think open mike night type of thing. Various performers, instruments, various numbers 1-6ish but the norm is 1-3. They perform 1-4 numbers.
Venue: Small community hall,100people size, no real stage, not a lot of room. Most lights(6)on front truss and two in the rear corners, ceiling.

Never really sure who or what is on till they walk up on stage. A couple of roadies help plug em in, MC distracts the audience and then away we go.

I created 3 zones, Left, centre and right (see image)- the idea being solo performer always takes centre and bigger groups spread out over the 3 zones.
I wanted nice fades between changes so I set up scenes(2second fades in and out) of 9 colours for each zone, each zone used 3 fixtures except for centre which only had the one main light and spill from the other zones. Left and right zones had a wash from behind, a "spot" and a wash from the opposing side. Close to 45deg as I could get things. The "spot" was really just another flatpar with the white turned up over the colours.

The Vc had a button for each colour(normal frame) so I could add/mix colours.
This setup allowed me to choose a colour per zone. As the song went on I could select another colour(closeby) (buttons setup in a colour wheel tree) and it would transition nice n slow). I could make one zone a different colour to another and up the intensity for solo parts.

What I think would be better is to have a fader mix thru those colours,or I tried a clickngo RGB on those 3 fixtures, ignored the scenes, which is fine but could not work out how to fade from one colour choice to another.

From my distant theatre days everything was always preset, scenes and ya just select them. this is sort of more on your toes seat of pants style.

As I was playing(backing for others) most of the night, I literally finished the last fixture plugin, turned it all on gave the laptop to a very non tech mate said, here 3 zones(and drummer another story ignore for now) dont touch anything else, select a colour and have fun and left him with it. Somehow it strangely worked we got away with it.

So wondering if there is a better concept ?
