Q Light Controller+

I've cued bunches of musicals using QLC+, many of which have used recorded music. However, now I've been given a task that I don't know how to handle.

We're doing SEUSSICAL, and this time the recorded accompaniment is on my laptop which also runs the light for the show. Because of the abundance of music (and a shortage of personnel) and the fact that the music and lighting are tightly integrated in this show, I'm expected to run both. I know that the obvious solution to this is to set up a series of shows to handle the music plus any light cues that need to take place because otherwise the light cues would stop the music.

My problem is that once a lighting sequence ends, the lights go out. There might not be another musical number for several minutes. I don't know how to prevent the last cue in the QLC+ show from quitting when the music ends.

I'm sure someone out there has met and conquered this dilemma before and that I'm probably being very dumb, but I can't seem to find a way to resolve the issue.

If you do not want to set-up shows you can run the music using an external player. Playing a song is just a cue point and the music will continue until you stop it or it finishes, while you run the lights of a cue list or whatever.

That's one way of dealing with it. I'd really like to use SHOW but I can't figure out how to get the last lighting step to keep running after the piece of music which is the basis of the show finishes. Or am I doing it backwards? Should I set up the lights first and then add the music?

A show is a combination of an audio track and lighting cues. As the track plays, the cues are sent over the dmx. Once created, a show can be triggered by a button or be put in a cue list. I would stick the show in a cue list and then make it's duration the length of the track. Then in the cue list, after the show, add a scene that has exactly the same settings as the final lighting cue in the show. Then, once the show has finished playing, the next cue is triggered but it is the same as the end so there is no change. Then add more scenes to the cue list for the scenes where there is no music. The next musical item is then another show inside the cue list.
