I created fixtures in the fixture editor and saved in the proper folder. When I go to load into QLC+, it won't recognize the file (.qwt). How do I fix this? Very new to this so please have patience.

Welcome to the community,
When you place your fixtures in the right place, you need to restart QLC+ so it can 'rescan' the user's fixture folder. After that your fixtures should be available to you. Make sure the manufacturer is filled in correctly. (You can use your own name f.i.).
A correct fixture extension is .QXF and not the quoted .qwt.
