Strange OSC issue

Hello all,

I can live with this issue but it is a puzzler.

I have a workspace with just our 28 dimmers set up with OSC on my iPad so that we can focus a new show without necessarily having someone in the booth.

Everything works fine, however when first starting QLC+ and the iPad, some of the fader changes from the computer are reflected on the iPad and some are not. But if I make a fader change on the iPad, then go back to the computer, suddenly it shows changes both ways.

The channels are always the same ones, so I must have done something weird during setup. It's channels 9 through 12, 19 through 24, and 27 & 28.

As I said, I can live with it because it's easy to run all the faders up on the iPad and then it's fine from that point. But it does puzzle me. Anyone else had this issue?

Should you feel like experimenting, I've attached the workspace, and the .touchosc layout file can be downloaded here:

You'd have to update the computer and iPad settings in I/O to match your system, of course. Also, my output is DMX but I'm not connected at the moment.

Thanks,
Kitty

Startup sync issues ... quite normal IMHO

Downloading your show file...

You have seven dimmer enclosures, each with four dimmers. Is that intended? Your level faders on VC show that.

Universe 1 has a feedback setting! Are we creating a loophole now? Is your iPad feedback sensitive? Then, 'one' instructs 'the other' and unwillingly influences the 'one' again, instructing 'the other' and so on.
I would now connect a tablet to the network to be sure, but I'm pretty sure that's the problem: Loophole ;-)

Yeah, it was just a quick way to set up 28 dimmers but still have them visually separated by dimmer pack in the VC for people who might need that visualization. I'm not running cues or anything from this workspace, just focusing lights.

Well this is my first foray into the world of OSC so I'm not going to pretend I know all about it, I just tried some things until it was working. I'll remove the feedback from Universe 1 and see what happens.

Appreciate you,
Kitty

Ok, so if I uncheck feedback in Universe 1, NO fader changes on the computer show up on the iPad.

You are on OSC. Why don't you use the web remote instead? In all my fixed installs, a tablet with web remote is the interface to command the lights. Everyone is happy with that solution.

Oh, I love the web access remote! But the Internet in our space can be unreliable. I can connect to the wi-fi network but not always the Internet. Does that matter for web access?

The other reason, a small issue perhaps, is that the web access doesn't seem to display any font colors other than black, at least not on my iPad using Chrome or Safari. I like a dark background with light font colors -- easier on the eyes in the dark.

At my other theatre we have all LED fixtures. My QLC+ layout has my fixtures grouped and organized by fader color. But the white font only shows black on the web access so using OSC makes it easier to read.

Besides, I do like to learn and tinker with things like OSC. :geek:

Anyway, the sync issue is fixable on startup so I guess that's how it will be.

Thank you for your time and effort.
