I just donated $25 USD to Massimo for this amazing piece of software, and it feels great.
Here is what I have accomplished so far using QLC+ in the first week...
) Bought some super inexpensive DMX lights and Haze machine from "no name China brands" via e-bay. (Same place the expensive name brand fixtures are made). Vevor LED washes and the "Mini LED Spot" moving gobo heads.
) Used to Fixture Editor and the manual that came with the lights (DMX Map) to add custom fixture definitions to match the said fixtures.
) Crash course in QLC+ via Massimo's YouTube tutorials to add Scenes, Chacers, and EFX, inputs, MIDI control, etc.
) Added Scenes, Chacers, and EFX to the Virtual Console; Works perfectly.
) Mapped the Virtual Console to the Akai APCmini, and setup the feedback lighting parameters. Tactile buttons with color feedback are awesome!
) Everything works perfectly. The lights, movers, and haze machine all work flawlessly.
What I love about QLC+
) Massimo is awesome!
) Easy to learn and use
) Complete control of the fixtures
) Able to define new Fixtures with ease, thus saving tons of money on no label DMX fixtures.
) Open Source, no fees (except the voluntary donation to Massimo, which made me feel great! )
) Dark mode ♥ - Dark Mode or Bust!
) I got exactly what I envisioned when I set out to get a lighting system setup. (Complete control, generic fixtures, no greedy subscriptions or licensing fees, no planned obsolescence or proprietary only protocols, MIDI control via MPC button mashing heaven, Dark Mode galore, and warm fuzzy feelings of DMX heaven.)
What's next for me:
) Setup an audio input from my DJ Console to QLC+ to read MIDI Beats (BPM), and have QLC+ "Play to the beat" timings, live.
) Share with others the magic of QLC+
Thank You Massimo for making this amazing project possible!
I'm encouraging others to donate to this project, because it's F'ing awesome!
