XY pad use in Videotutorial 7

Ask a generic question about the usage of QLC+, not related to a particular operating system

In Video tutorial 7 Massimo uses a "all zero" flashfunction which resets all fixtures (including position as you can see in the 3D visual).
And in the tutorial he uses the XY pad for positioning.
However, using a XY pad makes a "zero" for LTP channels useless. When I try this, the LTP (position channels) will directly return to the positions in the XY pad.
What do I do wrong? Or what magic is Massimo using in the video  ?

Love to use a XY pad

There might be an other scene active?
And what do you want to achieve? A zero-zero position of your movers?
(All my movers are defaulted to center pan, down tilt - so in the XY-pad you'd see all movers at the cross.)

Thanks for your reply.
I also have my defaults to pan and tilt in 127 dmx value.
But if the fixture is present in the XY pad, then the XY value will override the preset.
(Naturally of course, but there is no way to deactivate the setting in the XY pad while live)
So, if I activate a default setting function, it only will stay at the values of that function as long as the function is active. After that the values return to the values in the XY pad.
The XY pad seems always active with no possibility to deactivate.

Paul,

Did you try to put the XY-pad inside a frame and use the en-/disable frame feature? It should stop working when disabled.

I tried that but no, that does not solve the issue. Disabling a frame only prevents access to it. Does not stop functions / XY pads..
Next try:
Frame with 2 pages:
XY in page 1;
Switch to page 2: No result. XY pad keeps active

I'm still experimenting to find the best way to use X-Y pad, so i cannot tell you exactly how to solve your problem.
What i can do however is share with you what i've learned so far, maybe it will point you in the right direction.

If you go to the manual, you will find the Following:
The XY Pad allows 3 completely different usages, but all targeted to positioning. It's up to you to decide the best use of them depending on your needs. You also might want to consider the usage of multiple XY Pads with different purposes.
The manual then continues explaining the 3 different usages:
1- Absolute positioning
2- EFX
3- Relative to a Scene

Unfortunately it doesn't tell me how i can activate those different usages, but the remark to "consider the usage of multiple XY Pads with different purposes" challenged me to my experiment.

First I created a X-Y pad, added all my Wash Moving Heads and on the Presets Tab i Only added EFX's.
I learned that this turned the X-Y Pad in mode 2-EFX.
X- Y Pad - EFX Mode Small.jpg
X- Y Pad - EFX Mode Large.jpg
Furthermore i learned that if you connect 4 sliders (in this case from my Akai APC Mini) as External Control (on the first Tab), they will work on the Range Sliders.
So with those 4 sliders you can make make the Working Area of the X-Y pad Smaller (first JPG) or Bigger (second JPG), but if you keep the relative distance the same (meaning: Move 2 sliders together in the same direction) you can also move Up, Down, Left or Right.
(Next i replaced the fysical sliders of the APC by 4 LoopBack Sliders and added 4 additional LoopBack Sliders this time in Relative Mode to work on those sliders. This way i could create the Control Panel which is next to the X-Y pad in the sample JPG's. Be aware that it ignores any Rotation Value that is in your EFX, so i had to change all the EFX's i had created :( ).

Then I created another X-Y pad, again added all my Wash Moving Heads (so the same fixtures as before), but this time on the Presets Tab i Only added Scenes (with only Pan - Tilt Values).
I learned that this turned the X-Y Pad in mode 3- Relative to a Scene.
X- Y Pad - Position Scene Mode.jpg
In This Mode you can only connect 2 sliders as External Control (on the first Tab), and now they will work on the Handles.

You can use the Handles to set the cursor to a position, but if you activate one of the Preset scenes, they will override this.
If you deactivate your preset, it will go back to the position you did set with the handles.

Maybe this may lead you to the solution you are looking for.

well, sure this helps me to get "on the road to happiness"!

Pity that the colors and "on" accents on the buttons are hardly visible
Thanks

First concentrate on getting it to work, then spent some time on getting it to look nice. :) ;)

If you don't get it to work on the other hand, it's good that you didn't waist more time on it.
