I play in a band, so not a lighting engineer at all, and have just taken the step to DMX lights. Is there a simple way to get a very basic light setup synced to the live music. I suspect this is possible for someone in the know with Audio Triggers, but I have absolutely no idea where to start.
Any help, or suggestions of where else to look would be fantastic. I am looking for something very basic.

Actually the simplest way to get started syncing lights is to use an RGB matrix with a speed dial.
First, group your fixtures in the Fixtures tab.
Second, click on the group and arrange the fixtures in the preview to match what you'll have on stage.
Third, you can create different RGB Matrix scenes in the "Functions" tab.
Then there are two ways to go about syncing your RGB Matrix functions to the music:
Hope this helps

- You can then map the "Tap" button to a key on your keyboard and tap to the tempo of the music.
- You can use a Midi Beat Clock https://www.qlcplus.org/docs/html_en_EN ... beat-clock to sync to your instruments.
Hope this helps

We are a guitar band, so midi sync isn’t an option, and I don’t think it will be practical to tap to the rhythm, and play.
I know you can create a chase, but I was hoping to be able to do something similar to the music sync that effectively has a mic that picks up the beat, in a similar that traditional dmx controllers do. Thought that it maybe possible to use audio trigger in some way to pick out the various frequencies in the music to pick out the beat and change lighting to that beat, but don’t really know where to start

Do they? And to what extend?
With the audio widget you can try to achieve something, but due to the nature of music (and frequency bands and amplitude) you might or might not be successful.
Audio solely from the kick drum does work best of course, unless you have a quiet genre.
