How do I assign a MIDI program change messages 1-12 into 12 different colour changes.
I know there is MIDI coming in from my midi keyboard as I can see the joystick logo flashing when I press the keys.
In the inputs outputs section I have set the Midi input to channel 3 and the Mode to program change.
My lights are working perfectly on the simple desk.
I have had QLC installed for a day and have read the manual but cannot find this information.

1. In Functions tab create scenes for your color changes ("looks"). You may want to include all channels in the scene including dimmer channel, or you may want to include only color channels and control dimmer/shutter/whatever from elsewhere

2. In Virtual Console Tab create Solo Frame

3. Create as many buttons in the solo frame as needed (for 12 changes most probably you'll need 12 buttons, maybe one for black/no color)

4. Assign scenes to the respective buttons

5. Assign MIDI messages to the respective buttons

Note: it's better when you use separate Universe for MIDI input. So: use e.g. Universe 1 for DMX output (most probably with no input connected), and Universe 2 for MIDI input (most probably no output connected).
It's cleaner, safer, and there is no limit how many internal universes you can have.

If you tell us more details (like what fixtures are you controlling, what is the MIDI device creating those messages), you may get more information :)

If you get stuck, tell us what you have done, what works and what not, and you'll likely get some more help :)
Don't forget to attach QXW file and any custom QXF files.

Thanks Janosvitok
I have made some progress.
I have created and attached the qxw file as you suggested.
Midi in from an Evolution MK-125 midi controller keyboard
DMX out via an ENTTEC usb to dmx converter
Connected to 1 (for testing) Colordash Accent Quad pinspot (8 running when I get this bit worked out)

I have got to the point where I press a key on the keyboard and the widget/button lights up but not the pinspot.
When I only have 1 x universe (in and out), the simple desk works but not with the two universes (1 x in and 1 X out) as you suggest.

Have I missed something?

The green scene has dimmer channel set to 0; the white scene does not cover all fixtures.

When you click the buttons with the mouse, do they work? If not, the problem is in the scenes or buttons. If they work, the problem is in MIDI mapping.
If the problem is MIDI, you may have to create custom Input Profile (see docs).

Thank you.

The problem was that the main dimmer for light 1 on the simple desk was set to 0. I now know that the simple desk over rides the virtual desk.
At the moment it will only auto detect midi notes. Do you know if there's a way to trigger scenes from program changes? I have corrected the other issues you pointed out.

Yes, QLC+ should autodetect program changes. See MIDI input docs for list of accepted events. https://www.qlcplus.org/docs/html_en_EN/midiplugin.html
