OSC Controlled Fixtures

Ask a generic question about the usage of QLC+, not related to a particular operating system

Hi all.

Very new to this application., and have done all the tutorials but am failing to get a good start.

Broadly here is what I am attempting.

I want to play an audio track/s and have the output, I am assuming from the sound widget, send OSC control messages to an OSC controlled unit.

I am struggling to setup a 'fixture' that has OSC instead of DMX channels. I see QLC can receive OSC commands, and also output them, but how is this linked to a fixture, as so far the fixtures do seem to be the objects that every other part of QLC controls.

I seen a video of how to use the VR Audio widget to control DMX fixtures, but not how this is 'mapped' to OSC output.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.Keep safe and well.

Best regards,

Clive

I think you will have to study a lot more because there is not such a thing as an OSC driven fixture.
And even then - the data stream is not suited to cross long distances in very harsh conditions.
You cannot imagine how 'dirty' the power and signal flow are after being affected by parasitical currents on stage...

OSC is a medium to instruct things. You can compare it to a language. Without a 'body' to interpret the language, the arms and legs of the body won't do anything.
Typical signals used to drive fixtures are DMX, Artnet, 0-10V, DALI, Phillips HUE, some (obscure) wireless signals, ILDA, and others.

What device do you want to drive with your OSC messages created by the audio widget?
Most use of OSC is to remotely control the QLC+ environment (mostly on Mac). To start scenes, chasers, efx, ...
All electric machines work on smoke... when the smoke escapes... they don't work anymore

Thanks for the reply.

I thought I explained what I want to do.
My use of the term OSC Fixture was purely an expression as all the documentation, as you say, refers to QLC being the OSC recipient, controlling fixtures via DMX. I want to send OSC messages from QLC to another application, based upon incoming audio track, but not based on amplitude but time, so at a certain time point in the audio stream an OSC message is sent. (Sequencer)

I have found many sound to light apps that send OSC / midi but not one that can send based upon triggers set along an audio sequence.

In future I want to mix this function with DMX fixtures, so a light controller solution is what I'll need at a later stage, and I would prefer it handled all my control and messaging requirements.

Best regards.
