LED Matrix Fixtures with more than 1 U

I am working to build some 8" x 8' steps that will use fadecandy to drive LED matrix on the front of the step and connected back to QLC via ArtNET. Fadecandy can support 8x64 pixels which for RGB is 1536 addresses or 3 U. I'd *really* like to create fixture definitions for these so that I don't have to build them constantly but every time I try to build a fixture with more than 1 U it goes bewm. Should this be supported and if so how?

You have to create and use a "fixture" with - say - 8 x 8 "heads" (192 channels)
Add 8 of them to your project
Make a RGB matrix out of these 8 "fixtures" in the desired layout ( 1 x 8, 2 x 4 etc.)
There you go...
