This may be an odd question but..
How reliable have people found QLC to be?
I run a couple of night clubs and still use Martin LightJockey and am looking to replace.
My lighting guy says QLC is buggy and not as good/reliable as LightJockey. Is he just being old fashioned?
Can QLC be relied upon to run the lights in a medium sized night club? Or is it just for hobbyists, wedding DJs and small venues.

I ran quite some medium sized (30+ par, 42 movers, ... a LED pixel universe) shows with QLC+ in busking mode.
If you have a good DMX interface and some processing power inside your computer you are good.
Now some IMHO:
If there is a buggy part it comes from when you start attaching 'controllers' - just because Windows has to be tuned so USB will not be temporary shut down or your computer goes into power saving mode.
Loosing a USB connection to a controller under live conditions will require a restart - so total blackout.
A decent powered USB hub is a life saver in general and so to QLC+.
If total blackout is not acceptable then I have a DMX splitter/merger at hand and a 2nd laptop which will take over in the unlikely event that ...
Loosing a USB connection relates to cable management, like any other appliance - so take extra care here.
This all relates to extra costs of course.

All electric machines work on smoke... when the smoke escapes... they don't work anymore

I notice that you have posted this in the QLC 5 section. QLC 5 should not be used for events yet as it is still in Alpha.
QLC 4 I have been using for a while and not had many issues. It is a piece of software so do treat it with a bit of caution, saving while setting stuff up.
The only problem I've had when actually operating during a show was when the power to my projector got turned off. Hi, I have used many different dmx software and dmx tables in 20 years, from very basic to more complex such as avolites, LT Hydra, chamsys ...
No software offers as much for as little as QLC +,
As software for DMX is very powerful, it offers a lot of possibilities of programming, I, in some way or another, always managed to do what I wanted .....
To put a but .... Maybe for a very complex programming can be "heavy" many parameters or steps to touch up to do something during the creation of the show .... This is improving ....
Maybe the "fixture" you have does not have a specific library for QLC +, but in your favor, QLC + comes with a fixture editor where you can create or modify a library according to your preferences ....
Then it has many advantages over other software ....
QLC + offers you freedom and total control,
freedom because it is compatible with many USB-DMX adapters from very economical ranges to professional ranges,
It is compatible with any midi device that probe, which allows me to have as peripheral control what I want
There are many people to help you with the problems or doubts you have with QLC +
It is multiplatform. In most cases stability problems are caused by the S.O itself in many softwares (a defective windows for example)
QLC + allows me to use the OS that I decide, in my case a light linux configured to my needs, I never had problems of stability or malfunctioning, I remember using sunlite in xp in 2003 and getting to hate it for how unstable it was. ...
I have two QLC + installations in a nightclub (medium / large) with linux about 4 years, I never had a problem, today they are still working, and every day programming is added .....
I recommend you to try it, surely your illuminator does not know QLC + well, we all want to work with what we know best, Martin Lightjoker in a very professional software, but very expensive and limited to its peripherals, you can only use what Martin wants, or you can pay ....
