Control animatronics with QLC+ Shows timeline

Ask a generic question about the usage of QLC+, not related to a particular operating system

Hello all,

I was asked if I could create a haunted house-type show to include lighting, sound, video, and animatronics, where the operator could simply press a "start button" and the show could run autonomously. Naturally, I thought that the QLC+ Show timeline could be the perfect solution until it dawned on me that I have no idea how animatronics are actually controlled. In my research it looks like most of them uses proprietary relay boards that have record and playback functionality. I'm thinking that maybe I could just wire up and DMX relay in its place. Does anyone know of any other hardware or software solution? or even an animatronics controller that supports DMX in?

Thanks in advance

Hi, can you point us to a few product pages of these animatronics devices?

If they're just relays I'd guess GPIO output could be your friend, therefore a Raspberry Pi could be the solution.
You can even run QLC+ on a PC for DMX+Audio+Video and send signals to a "slave" RPi via ArtNet or OSC and trigger GPIO controls (via QLC+ Scenes/Chasers)
