[solved] Add collections to a chaser?

Ask a generic question about the usage of QLC+, not related to a particular operating system

Hi everybody,

I am a new qlc+ user and I only use it to fire shows via MIDI from a Roland SPD-SX. I am very happy as it is but I was trying to enhance my project a little bit. So I changed my LED bars to 18 channel mode and now have an extra dimmer and strobe channel. This is great to control the intensity of RGB Matrixes because some RGB matrixes where too bright!
I put my first RGX Matrix into a collection together with a dimmed but ‘dark’ scene. This new collection works fine (perfectly to be honest) but I am not allowed to add this collection to a show.

Since I am able to add a collection to a chaser I thought that was a good solution. But when doing that, no matter what timers I set, lights go on but that’s it. Anyone any ideas if this will ever work like this?

Best regards,

Gerard

You should upload your workspace. No one knows what you really has done there.

So I created a test and here it is. I am not sure if this will ever work. The chaser isn’t doing what I hope it would do.

Ok, i see. Tutorials are good, but you should also read the manual. There you will better understand what a collection and a chaser does.

- a chaser makes steps. In most cases you create scences and put it to a chaser. Set there the times to run from step to step...with or without fadetimes.
- a collection is box of created scences, chaser and much more. All in the "box" start together with activation. Activation can be a button in virtual console.

Its possible to create collections and put it in a chaser. In your workspace was only one collection in a chaser. You see, cannot work, because you need minimal two items in a chaser so that it can step from first to next and so on....
If you create RGB Matrixes you can set there the times for the matrix steps. But if you then put it to a chaser, you must know that the chaser has also a time to set between chaser steps. For example: Your LED-BAR has 5 Lights and you make a Matrix called "Stripes" . The Matrix time is set 1 seconds. So it needs 5 seconds to reach last LED with on/off.
Then you make a new Matrix , also Stripes with another color, same time 1 seconds. Now you put both matrixes into a chaser. Then you should set the chaser step time to 5,10,15 and so on...that it looks good.

QLC+ has much more possibilities, but test out the basics...

If you want only to set the maximum brightness of a fixture for each location, you can set a slider on virtual console, use in level mode and choose there the dimmer channel.
Then you can put only the RGB-Matrixes in the chaser...

If it was your wish to step matrixes with different brightness, so you can do with collections and put in each a scene with brightness and the matrix. Make minimal two and put it to a chaser. One button on VC to start the chaser.....look at picture

regards, Ralf

Hi Ralf,

Thank you for your respons! I read it all and it is very clear now. But 1 thing is not true:
You see, cannot work, because you need minimal two items in a chaser so that it can step from first to next and so on....

My chaser has only 1 step, the collection. This collection consists of an RGB matrix and the dimmed scene. But the trick is you need to make sure that the chaser duration is at least equal to the steptimer of the RGB matrix. Else the lights will go on and nothing happens!

Now I can add the chaser to the show and it works! Thanks for your help.

If that is true a dummy step could bring some solutions I guess?
All electric machines work on smoke... when the smoke escapes... they don't work anymore

I should better read postings twice. I see that you need it for show-manager. So it's clear for me,too why using one step chaser. My explanation was about basic chaser usage with matrix inside.

No worries Ralf, your note about the timer helped me. I am not a light man, I am drummer. But our show is going to look great now. Sendig MIDI from a Roland sample pad works great!

I am completely happy! Creating this fixed my issue.
