So .. one thing I really use is the 2d view on 4.x .. this is how I design and test my light cues. I am *really* looking forward to the 3d view on 5.x However, one thing i've started doing is creating non-fixture .. fixtures .. that can be used to help layout the show and give context to fixture usage and needs. So for instance:
- Bandmember fixtures ( one for each musician .. and one for the drummer (ha))
- Spike Positions ( Solo1, Announcer, etc..)
- Staging fixtures ( platforms, steps, etc.. )
- Staff fixtures ( stage director, etc )
To do this I usually create an 'other' with a mode and then set dimensions. Would it be possible to make this more distinct?
I am hoping that as we move to 3d with actual coordinates for things, we can get to the point where I can say point fixtureGroup foo at position bar. I am doing something like this with a dmx filter tool that I'll be releasing shortly .. but it'd be cool to have it built in.
Non-Fixture .. Fixtures

Just for clarification: So you are basically requesting some kind of visual placeholder with some dimensions (for example to have a visual impression on the available space on the stage) that should not do anything besides scaling in the right dimension?

Correct. It just needs to be a placeholder with dimension and perhaps a name or something to identify it.
