Fading out issue - Scenes

Ask a generic question about the usage of QLC+, not related to a particular operating system

    Hi,
Thanks for this program, I'm really enjoying learning how to use it.

I'm having an issue with a show I've created. It's a very simple setup that consists of about 20 dimmers (generic) and 7 LED moving head lights (I created my own fixture for these).

I've created scenes with very basic attributes - intensity up/down, and basic movement or colour change on the moving heads. For each scene I have added a fade in/fade out time using the speed dial pop-up in functions tab.

To run the show I've created buttons in the Visual Console and assigned the desired functions to each button. Simple setup.
This works fine, except I'm having fade down issues.
The moving heads are all working fine. Fade up/down, movement, colour change, no problem at all.
The generic dimmers however each fade up when triggered by a scene, but then remain at that intensity forever, or go higher only. They don't ever fade down or out, even though the next scene has them programmed to a lower level or down to zero.
It's happening with every generic dimmer, throughout all the scenes. The only way I can get the intensity back down us to jump to Simple Desk and manually pull them down.

    Can you help?

If there's a smoother way to program a cue list (go button style) I'd love your advice also.

    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,

Care to attach the show file? It would make it a bit easier to figure out what is going on.

Typically, I find that when lights stay on, a running function somewhere is controlling them.

    Cheers

    Hi Mark,

    Thanks for your response.
I have attached the showfile as requested.

It could be possible as you say that the previously cued functions are still holding the intensities up.
How can I setup cueing of these scenes so this doesn't happen?

    Hi Mike,

    Thanks for sharing.

I had a look at your show file and it seems you are doing some kind of theatre work. Is that correct?

The best approach (I think anyway ;-) ) is that you use a cuelist in the virtual console. It allows you to advance from scene to scene with customised fade in and fade out times. Basically, you create all your scenes (as you have already done) and then add them to a chaser. ( I created one in the file). Then create a cuelist in the virtual console and link it to the chaser. (I have created one for you)

Then it is just a matter of stepping through each cue. I have set each step to infinity but you can add a time if you want and it will automatically move to the next cue. An infinite hold waits for you to manually move the cuelist on.
There is one issue, that I believe is being worked on, relating to adding effects and chasers to chasers that already have fade times with the effect or chaser. For shows, if you need an effect like that, then it best to create a button or slider that can run the effect outside the cuelist.

An alternative method is to use a solo frame (I have created one for you). This basically means that when the next button is pushed on the previous button is released. For complex shows with lots of cues this can become unwieldy very quickly.

Last thing, I find having a 'black scene' useful for shows. I just set all the dimmers to zero and create a scene. It can be added to a cue list when needed and each instance can have different timings if needed.

    Hope that information is useful.

    Cheers

    Hi Mark,

    Thanks very much for this.
What you setup in the showfile is perfect, and has fixed the issue I was having with previous cues not being released.
I'll be trialing it operating a development show in Korea tonight, so thanks!

    No worries.
    Hope the show went well.
