Hi everyone,
If you wanted to create a lightshow to go with a specific piece of music (Ravels Bolero) how would you go about it? Would you wing it using Simple Desk, would you create lots of scenes and chases on Virtual Console (switching them on/off as needed) or would you use Show Manager to build the show? Just wanted to know how you guys would do this, what's the conscious of opinion? Thanks
A Music Show

I would use show manager. It allows for complete control over the timing of the lights. Once set up you only have to click a button and watch your lighting genius unfold.
That said you will still need to create all the lighting scenes.
I would also allow sometime for experimentation. Because it is very much time based, sequences and chases that you use cannot have infinite holds in them. Personally I have had issues with RGBmatrices as well but you may have better results. I have stuck with scenes, sequences and chasers.

Hello,
Many thanks for your reply, I will give Shows a try although not had much success in the past. Would it be possible for you to upload a file of a show that you have done so I can see how it's put together? best wishes

I managed to dig up an old show. It is attached. It might serve some use. I removed the audio track as it was causing issues due to file locations being a bit messed up I think.
I found the information in the manual on the show manager very helpful especially in relation to sequences and chasers.
I have found, in the few shows I have done, that you develop a workflow over time. Initially it can be a bit frustrating but gets easier the more you do.
I found it useful to have particular sets of lights on the same track. That way it was easier to manage them.
I tended to stick to sequences rather than RGBmatrices or Chasers. Creating sequences from RGBmatrices was useful but sometimes results were unpredictable. I think this is due to the fact that RGBmatrices sometimes use random variables etc to create the effect, but that is a bit of guess.
