Below is a screenshot of a speed channel from a fixture:

It is possible to read the channel name and capabilities at the same time and it is obvious what this channel does...

Below is a generic effect for a channel called MBE 3 (Multiple Beam Effect 3). There are actually 9 of these channels, differing only in their number:

Above, it is impossible to know what the channel does unless the mouse is moved away and clicked somewhere neutral in the window, then moved back to hover over the star icon until a tool-tip appears:

The tool-tip takes a moment to show and in finding somewhere to click, I often open the universe selector at the top by mistake.

A workaround is to duplicate channel name information in the capabilities area but there isn't enough space, especially for the Effects groups. If you hit 60 characters, the names jump to 4 lines of text and the contents can't be seen properly.

It would be nice to display the channel name at the top of the effect pop-up when it's clicked so that it's obvious what it does, in a similar way to Pan, tilt, speed and the maintenance menus do. A further idea is to have a channel shortcut name (additional tag?) that appears above the icons showing what the channel does in a few characters. 5 would be enough.

Yes!

Massimo is very fussy about channel/capability names so this will help keep him happy and make the main interface easy to use :)

I was expecting a notification for your response david but saw it on github before I saw this post. :(

Wow! What an incredible group of people are involved with QLC+! Though I've struggled with this occasionally, I tend to just create a Virtual Console and move on. As I was reading this thread, I found myself saying, "Yeah - that is kind of a hassle." Then - before I can think any further about it - it's been solved! Wow! I am continually surprised at the level of dedication and attention that everyone brings to QLC+!

Please keep up the great work!
