Grand Master / Sub Master not using modifier template

I have an led flood for which I have had to create a modifier template to get the intensity levels to match my other lights as they are faded up/down. This works fine when using a VC fader set to control the intensity, however, the Grand Master, and a Sub Master created for these lights, do not seem to use the template. Is this intentional behaviour ? It seems strange that the faders behave differently.

I read a couple of times about such templates in the forum but did not find any documentation how to create/ use them.
Can you point me to such information?

On the fixtures tab, select a fixture.

Fifth icon on the tool bar next to the Spanner is an icon that looks like a sloping graph. Clicking on that opens the channel properties window where you can add a modifier to any channel.
