Midi not working

Hi there I'm running mac OSX Yosmite, I'm using Enttec Open USB for DMX output that works perfectly!

Only issue is that I want to trigger scenes from a midi input, I'm using Alesis Trigger IO and I can select it in the input output page but cannot get it to trigger anything. I dont even get the little joystick showing input. It triggers the notes I want it to in Logic but will not work in Q Light? I changed the input to 1-16 channels but the wizard doesn't work to configure it. Even if I assign the channels manually it doesn't work. Am I being stupid? Is it just a setting that I need to change?

Any help would be appreciated!
