Hi folks. So here's the story. Last night my QLC+ system working perfectly. Today I upgraded to 4.8.5 and then observed the following problem: Many of the buttons I have on my virtual console don't get the green outline around them when I click them. Then I will click say a button for an automated program or a strobe and once I click it, it won't go off. Some lights are working fine but some are not.\

I reinstalled 4.8.4 and the problem did not go away.

Then I restored the copy of the workdesk from last night when everything was working and it still didn't work.

Is there maybe some option that got reset when I installed the new version and then installed the old version that I need. It's so weird since some of the lights work and some don't and I didn't change anything in my actual lighting configuration. I am now restoring everything from last night (the entire QLC+ directory to see if it will start working again). But even if it does I have changes I need to make.

1. Anyone know why buttons would stop working correctly? Not lighting up when clicked and not turning off when clicked?
2. Is 4.8.5 ready for prime time (just checking)

There is nothing complicated with my setup.

Please help!!!!!

Thanks,
Rob

OK so I restored everything from last night and once again almost everything was working (still a couple of new buttons that won't highlight in green when you click them - don't have any idea why that happens).

So once everything was working again correctly I downloaded 4.8.5 again and installed it. Once again many of my buttons were all screwed up. Once again I downloaded 4.8.4 and installed it again and it did not fix the problem.

So now I am stuck with my old copy of 4.8.4 which is not a big problem but I can't see how to upgrade to the new release because it seems to screw up my entire show.

Thoughts?

Hi,

Which operating system are you using ?

Does this happen if you start a project from scratch ? If not, could you please share your workspace file ?

Thanks

I am using Windows 8.1 Pro.

I have attached my work file.

Rob

Sorry but I don't have time to start a project from scratch today. Maybe tomorrow.

Anyone know why I can't upgrade to 4.8.5 without my show completely acting up? I attached the show to my last post. Can someone try it on 4.8.5 please or at least check it out. If you check it out I would also like to know why the OFF button in the section called Quadphase won't highlight when I click it.

- No issue here.

- No clue why it doesn't work, I'd have to test on windows.

Thanks for testing it. However I have no idea now where that leaves me with respect to continuing with my use of the product. Any suggestions for how this should be tackled now. I so very much want to continue with QLC+.

solution 1: ubuntu.com
You can run QLC+ on linux.

solution 2: keep using 4.8.4
You'll have to wait for the issues on windows to be analyzed and fixed.

I have nothing better for you right now :/

Yeah I really can't go to Linux because I have a KVANT laser and use QuickShow to control it, which only runs on Windows. I guess I will just stick with 4.8.4 until 4.8.5 is more ready for prime time on Windows.

Thanks.......... Rob

Just tested with QLC+ 4.8.5 on Windows 7.
The OFF button of Quad Phase works just fine. When clicked, it stays on.

Honestly I don't have many suggestions, other than blaming Windows 8.1 or the DMX USB adapter you are using.
I've just run a fresh installation of QLC+ 4.8.5 with an Enttec Pro MK2 adapter connected and it worked.

Are you sure you told us the whole steps to reproduce the issues you're seeing ?
Are you activating any other function before clicking the Quad Phase OFF button ?
Can you try without the USB adapter connected and see if it works ?

Ok so Virtual DJ does not run on Linux and QuickShow does not run on Linux. What if I ran something like VMWare Player and an Ubunto in a virtual machine and then installed QLC+ there. How do you think QLC+ would run in a virtual machine? Any gotcha's?

Thanks,
Rob

Answers to these questions could help fix "for real" the issues you've encountered.
And help others that may have encountered these issues. :)

As for your question: This should work.

EDIT: No issue here on windows 8.1 & qlc+ 4.8.5. Please answers the questions above :)

For now I have decided the next step is to reinstall Windows 7 and see if the problems go away. Everything is backed up. I am a computer tech. Once I see how Windows 7 reacts for me I will decide what to do next. Will keep you all posted.

And if it helps I can do testing wth Windows 8.1 Pro again a little.

I have now re-installed Windows 7 on my machine and tested my work file with my existing 4.8.4 system. While not attached to lights it appears to be working correctly. Next I upgraded the software to 4.8.5 and it still seems to be working (without USB adapter or actual lights).

So it would appear that Windows 8.1 Pro is having some issues that Windows 7 is not, at least by my testing.

Well the saga continues. I have tried so many things to determine what's going on. I thought using Windows 7 fixed the issues but as soon as I hooked up the lights half my buttons didn't work. I have tried rolling forward to 4.8.5 and rolling back to 4.8.4. None of these things worked. The only thing that has worked is restoring my entire system to a date when everything worked (Windows 8.1 Pro, QLC+ 4.8.4). Everything is working now but I don't seem to be able to install 4.8.5 without everything going haywire. And when it does re-installing 4.8.4 does not restore proper service. It's like 4.8.5 changes something that doesn't go back when I re-install 4.8.4,

I don't really knows how to troubleshoot this. I don't want to create my show from scratch. That would be around 90 scenes and at least 75 different controls on my virtual console.

How do you guys think I should proceed in my attempts to find out what's causing these strange reactions from my system?

Enttec USB DMX MKII. It's the only one I have. With my current system as it is it works perfectly.

OK folks so I want to continue trying to see what's going on here. I was thinking I would reinstall 4.8.5 and then start a new show to play around. I can always restore my entire system and get back to something that is working.

The question is do you think I should start completely over with fixture definitions, all new scenes, and a new virtual console, or do you think I should start with the scenes that I have and just build a new virtual console? Which do you think is a better test? I am obviously going to need help to figure out eventually what the root cause of these issues is so I would like advice on how to best test to provide feedback to those who can help me.

Thanks,
Rob
