Can someone please explain to me how sequences work? I cannot get to make sense of how they fit in. I'm getting a program crash whenever I try to delete a sequence and it is probably because I'm not doing it right.
I can add multiple steps to a sequence but can only set fade in, out & duration of each step but this only works with the current scene? So in theory, I can set different fade in, out and duration time for a scene?
An all white scene I created (all on full 255) only has duration enabled when I try to create a new sequence.
What/how/where with sequences
As stated in the documentation in the Basic Concepts & Glossary (have you read it ?):
"A sequence is a special Chaser which is bounded to a specific Scene. It means all the created steps will control channels of the same scene. When creating new steps in a sequence, no Function selection popup will appear, since a Sequence is a child of a Scene.
A sequence will appear in the Function Manager with a different icon than a Chaser."
Nothing more, nothing less.
Can you explain the exact procedure to make the program crash ?

I have read the documentation and I am afraid I do not understand it, so I was hoping for someone to explain. For instance the above states: "...the created steps will control channels of the same scene'. It does not seem to give me more than fade in, duration, fade out values I can enter into a scene. So I am looking for some examples of what people have used them for or how they can be applied. I did create a a sequence with 4 steps each with a duration of 1 second and each one fades either in or out in sequence also for a second. None of the fade in/outs in the middle seem to do anything.
I get the crash regularly when I delete a sequence I have added. I get the dialog, the sequence is deleted but the qlc+ crashes a second later.

I've introduced sequences to be used in Shows.
If you go to the Show manager, everything will be clearer. (I hope)
Duration is equal to: Fade In + Hold + Fade Out
About the crash: where do you create them ? In the Function panel or in the Show panel ?

From my side I have a lot of problems with the sequence manager Show
It functions randomly.
In the attached example (the best I've succeeded) when I run the show it takes about 20 seconds for the sound and lights.
I often do not have sound or no lights.

Just opened your project.
- created with QLC+ 4.2.2
- an audio item (file not found) is overlapped with a light item
- there's a scene with an empty name
I guess you need to review the way to create a project.
Use a separate track for audio
[EDIT] you used sequences, but I didn't see them cause they were grouped in the scene with an empty name :S

Massimo,
I redid the tests with QLCplus4.3.1 (bravo for your work).
I still have the same problem (OSX 10.6).
I open a new project.
I created my projectors.
I created a scene white.
I created a scene flash (strobe channel 5).
I created my show "flash".
On the first line I put the white power scene get the mp3 that I set it to 0s.
On the second line I put the flash scene. in the timeline I created a "new sequence". IN 0s fade, fade OUT 0s, No 4s.
I start playing, I sound and the first flash 4s works.
18 s I clone the first sequence I call 2. etc.. it works to clone 4.
The 5th clone its flash and disappear and do not return the timelimne's 1mn10s.
This is the same problem with 4.3.1 and QLC4.2. despite numerous attempts.
When I save the project and then I open the mp3 is sometimes replaced with "file not found".
Luck in the project that I put a copy, it does not seem to be the case. Against by the sound and flash reappear at the end of 50s.

In these days I am porting a 2 hours light show from LumiDMX to QLC+.
My approach is different from yours. Here's what I do in QLC+
- I add the fixtures
- go to Show Manager
- create empty tracks (so far I have 6). Note that I don't use existing scenes. I create empty scenes and then I add the fixtures I will use in each track
- select the desired track
- add a sequence
- start to fill the sequence. In my case I just use a single sequence for the whole track, adding pauses when I need to
Can you try this approach too ? If you need more info just let me know.
As for the "file not found" audio, this can be cause of OSX paths. Can you copy your audio files in the same folder of your project and try again ?
When QLC+ detects that the audio file is in the project folder (or project subfolder), it will save relative path, so you can re-use your projects on other computers. Using absolute paths is not a good idea in this case.

Ok, I'll try this approach in the middle of next week.
Regarding the "file not found", this is what I was doing as a precaution.
In the example of "flash" before compaction QLCplus found the mp3 after closing. But after compaction-decompaction QLC had lost mp3.
I still start routine testing next week.

Hi massimo
I redid tests starting with throw out all the old versions of QLCplus I have kept the 4.3.1
I tried your approach on a new project (empty)
Objective: To generate lightning by using the conch 3 LED PAR on the background of storm sequences with 4 second (fade 0s IN, OUT fade 0s, No 4s.)
After 5 or 6 clones of the sequence 1, I have more lightning, more sound.
There are a few flashes and sound hoarse after one minute.
I often lose mp3 (file not found) when recording. But I took care to put her in the same directory as the project QLCplus.
When I want to remove the "file not found" QLCplus crash. I attached the crash report.
With wav, I have the same behavior.
If I created a show about a project that already has a virtual console functional application is even more unstable.

I have to admit that I am struggling with the exact definitions, within the context of this software, of scenes, chasers, and sequences, and how they all interact. And yes, even after reading the glossary. I am hoping that once I start actually playing with them I can get a clear understanding. But this has made me think I should perhaps talk to my editor at O’Reilly… it has been a while since my last book for them, and perhaps I could turn my learning experiences with QLC Plus into a book to help others come up to speed more quickly.
That would be an awesome thing James !
I know that sometimes the documentation might be outdated or poorly detailed, but unfortunately I don't have enough time to code AND write docs
And lately there's a hurricane of new features, so it is possible that something is missing or that I've written it too quickly at 2am in the morning.
If somebody with already some experience with QLC+ want to give a hand in bringing the documentation to a decent state, it's very welcome !

Oh, by the way, regarding this topic...
Lately I realized that the Show Manager needed some love, since I found quite a bunch of bugs. In these days I need it to port my 2 hours light show with 200+ channels, so I spent some time on it.
I am working on version 4.3.2 and (hopefully) most of the issues will be gone.

So I took the opportunity to make a few suggestions:
In the virtual console, would it be possible to improve the contrast when a button is active (operating mode). Currently the color becomes darker or gray, but when using color buttons, and the eyes are round trips between spectace and console, you get lost. If the active contour button appear in bold or surbillance example, it would be more understandable.
Last thing, the grand master and the Go button could they not be controllable by midi?
Thank you for your work.

Contrast: I'll have a look into it
GM: can already be done. Click on the settings icon of VC toolbar -> Grand Master tab
What do you mean by "Go" button ? (this is getting quite off-topic though)

Contrast: jannis87 [here](http://sourceforge.net/apps/phpbb/qlc/v ... ?f=2&t=337) created a patch to display a little LED-like circles on the buttons (like the LEDs on the real consoles) that blink in the rhythm of the chaser. I once extended it to light on also when the button is pushed.
Should I port it to QLC+?

I am aware that this topic is beyond the ... I am willing to create a new one?
I have found the midi command for GM in a box tool toolbar VC ... but it does not work. The fader movement are reflected in a very disorderly. (the values are from 0 to 100% and then abruptly stops).
Go button is the button that switches the operating / design.
