Hi guys,

This might seem a simple question but I can't see a solution at the moment... maybe I'm missing something...

I want to create a function to fade out some of my fixtures but not all of them... I thought this was just a case of creating a scene that sets the fixture's intensities to 0 and setting a fade time of, say, 5 seconds. Unfortunately this didn't work as the Grand Master overrides any of the intensity settings of my fixtures.

How do I control the intensity of one fixture without the Grand Master overriding the settings? An intensity slider I added to the virtual console for one of my fixtures will not function because the Grand Master overrides its values.

Any ideas?

Actually it's not the general master, it was a slider I had in the virtual console for controlling the intensity of the lantern. This slider seems to take precedence over any intensity values in a scene - how can I make a scene override this slider value? I'd like to make a scene that fades out the lantern but this is ignored by the slider value.

Alternatively, can you automate the sliding down of a fader instead?

That looks cool! How do you use it? I didn't quite understand the help document about it... Can you still use a standard DMX (USB) output as well as a Loopback?

Yes :)


Step 1 - go to the Input/Ouput tab, select a universe you don't use for now (let's say universe 4).
On the "Loopback 1" line, check both the INPUT box and the OUTPUT box.

Step 2 - go to the Fixtures tab.
Add a simple 1channel dimmer to Universe 4, address 1.

Step 3 - go to the Functions tab.
Add a scene, make it control your new simple dimmer. Intensity value: 100%

Step 4 - go to the Virtual Console tab
Create a button to toggle the previously created scene.
Create a slider (THIS is the one that will be automated), set it's input to universe4, ch1. (manually enter 1, see screenshot)



Once you've attributed a target function or target channel or submaster mode to the slider, it will be controlled by the scene.

Go to operate mode, click on the button, see the slider move :)

It is controlled by the value in Universe4:ch1, the value here can be controlled by a scene or whatever other function. This way you can automate it's movement.

Hi David,

Thank you, that works a treat!

However, I still have a related issue... If I have a fader on my virtual console that controls the intensity of a fixture (or set of fixtures), intensity fades no longer work inside chasers. The value of the fader always takes precedence over any chaser values so my cross fading chaser doesn't work. As soon as I remove the sliders from the virtual console, it all works as expected.

How do I get QLC to override any fader settings during a chase? Any ideas?

Sure yep... see attached file :-)

Interestingly after deleting and re-creating the fixture (it was the 'Lanta Orion Link V2' LED bar I was having trouble with) it seems to be behaving now.

Basically I had set all the "LEDBAR Program XX" scenes to include an intensity setting of 255 but this wasn't taking effect - the intensity slider in my virtual console for the LED Bars was the overriding everything. My intensity channel on all the fixtures is set to HTP too... weird!
