Hi everyone.
last year (a long time ago) i managed to do a whole show on QLC using the rather longwinded method of programming a chaser from scene to scene.... it took a very long time to create but worked quite well.
a copy of my project and chat about chasers etc can be found here... https://sourceforge.net/p/qlcplus/discu ... it=25#6d26
but now i want to do a similar thing but using show manager....
i have to say i just can not get to grips with this method. most of the time i am just confised at what QLC does (or mostly doesnt) do.
has anyone managed to put a working show together? can you let me have a copy of your project so i can work out what I'm supposed to do please? I'm just frustrated with it all and I'm beginning to wonder if QLC just isn't ready for what I'm trying.... (sorry Massimo if I'm just being thick)
is there a video manager tutorial ive missed?
I've seen some great videos from folks that have put on a great show using QLCplus... but how did they do it i wonder?
please help?
yours enlightedly
Rick
Does anyone have a show manager project to share?
Hello all,
if anyone else can help, ive uploaded a little video to youtube demonstrating why this is difficult for me.... and also attached my project file....
http://youtu.be/oXOxDWYraNI
the audio file ive used in this little example can be found on www.audionetwork.com - just search there for the track "Digital-Bounce"
ive had qlc shutdown on me a number of times without warning.... is there a log i can send you to explain why?
video is here....
many thanks.
Rick

some operating systems will save a crashlog file that may help the debugging, what's yours ?
The best thing you can provide to help fix the crash is a list of steps to reliably reproduce the crash.
As for the show manager usage, I can't help you as I never use this feature, sorry.

Three things are a mystery to me:
1. The cue stack in the Simple Console. I have never used it and don't know what it is for. I know what a cue is and I know what a stack is (push and pop etc). Lots of blue stars, tick boxes and sliders that appear to do nothing and don't map to anything.
2. Show manager. S & M: stereo/mono lights?
3. The difference between a Chaser and a Sequence: DMX outputs 8-bit values over time. A Chaser changes DMX values over time. A sequence to quote: 'the steps of a Sequence represents different values of the same Scene'. So a sequence changes DMX values over time?
Me being thick. However, in analogy, is a sequence telling someone to keep bashing the same drum when they're told to, and a chaser telling them to play a drum solo?

Did you read online help?
1. http://www.qlcplus.org/docs/simpledesk.html Cue stack is simple, limited, straightforward emulation of simple lightight console. The process is: you create cues by setting faders, then store them one by one. Each set of cues si called playback, and they are assigned to faders in the lower part. You can start them and fade them. That's all. They are not connected in any way with the rest of the program.
(although it might be useful if they were...)
2. http://www.qlcplus.org/docs/showmanager.html it's there but hidden. I will improve the visibility. S - solo - only this track is played; M - mute - exlude this track from playing
3. Sequence is special case of chaser. Chaser in QLC+ is a container that contains several other Functions (scenes, efx, audio, video, other chasers,...) and plays them one after another (sequentially). Sequence is a chaser that contains only variations on one scene (i.e. each sequence has assigned a scene that contains some channels, and all steps of the sequence contain/control only those channels). The goal of sequences is to be able to create all the steps as fast as possible.
In your analogy, if you know that your program will contain drum solo on snare and hihat only, you might use sequence. If you need to combine chorus and verse together, you use chaser.

Thanks Jano. I was being devil's advocate a bit, but I have read all the documentation and watched the tutorial videos but find a few things frustrating.
Dear Boxy,
Thank you for the laughs.
(Stereo lights.... Like when we used to have to wear red and green glasses at the cinema? Lol.)
But seriously..... Did anyone look at my video? It's strange..... Is it a bug or a low powered laptop issue?
Now, where did I put my stereo eyeglasses?
Thank you for the laughs.

Hello Rick, funny video
I think I got the problem.
Just change the hold duration from "common" to "per step".
The first thing I noticed was the messed up graphics in your project. Then I realized there was something wrong with the steps duration.
I'll have a look into it, as you clearly have found a grey area of the Show Manager
[EDIT] If you build from sources, it's fixed now on GIT

Thanks so much Massimo. Very much appreciated.
