Hello people who know more about QLC+ than I do,

I'm quite new to QLC+, but I'm very interested in learning a lot about it.

My first goal is to connect two lightbulbs to my computer and make sure I can dim them.
I have an Enttec Open DMX USB interface, an Eurolight EDX4 4 channel dimmer, two lightbulbs, and the cables to connect everything.

QLC+ does recognize the Enttec interface and I marked it as the place where the output should go.

Then I tried to make a fixture for the EDX4 dimmer following the tutorial of Massimo Callegari. I also tried to use some other fixtures for other 4 channel dimmers. And I did check the DMX adress (in QLC+ I put the adress on 1-4, and on the EDX4 device I put the adress on 1).
But the lightbulbs stay off when I go to the simple view in QLC+ and move the sliders up.

Does anyone have an idea what I did wrong? I probably made a mistake when I tried to create the fixture, but I don't know what to improve exactly.

Thanks in advance for any ideas/reactions!

How about if you load QLC with no fixtures, just your output Enttec, and move the channels 1-4 in Simple Desk? Make sure you don't have Blackout clicked :}
Rinske

Thanks for your reply! I tried loading QLC+ with no fixtures, and the blackout function is off. But the lightbulbs stay off too when I move the channels in Simple Desk. Any other suggestions?

Once more:

1. go to input tab, mark enttec open dmx usb as output for Universe 1
2. (you may delete other universes)
3. Set DIP switch on the EDX4: 1 on, all other off
4. raise channels 1-4 in the Simple Desk (make sure Universe 1 is selected).

- if the connection is OK, the LED on the dimmer should blink (if I recall correctly).

- if it doesn't work - can you plug a hw controller instead of the enttec dongle to check the cables/dimmer?

- please post your operating system (windows/linux/osx) and version.

- if possible, use simple DMX tester to check signal (http://www.bigclive.com/dmxtest.htm)

- swap DMX cable with another.

- add generic dimmer fixture (fixtures tab) - set channels count to 4.

- Do you lightbulbs work ?
- Is your XLR cable OK ? (may be reversed)
- Is the EDX4 powered up ?
- Is the EDX4 fuse OK ?

- Do you have access to another fixture to test your QLC+ + Open DMX setup ?
- Do you have access to another DMX Controller to test your EDX4 + lightbulbs setup ?

I noticed as well that the DIP switches are weird:

1) Bit 1 is on the left.
2) On is down.

So, left one down, all others up (I couldn't get a laser working this way. RTFM and remember zero isn't used!).

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll to answer your questions the best I can.

- (1) I marked the enttec device as output for Universe 1
- (3) I set the DIP switch on the EDX4 on 1
- (4) I raised the channels 1-4 in Simple Desk in Universe 1
- (5) There are 5 LED's on the dimmer. One for each channel, they're off. There's also one with the text "DMX signal POWER", this one is on.
- (6) I don't have another controller, but I'll try to borrow that from someone
- (7) My operating system is OS X 10.9.3
- (8) I don't have the materials and tools to make a DMX tester. Thanks for the link though.
- (9) I just have one cable with a 5p male and a 3p female end to connect the EDX and Enttec devices.
- (10) I added the generic dimmer fixture (with 4 channels) in Universe 1

- My lightbulbs work
- My XLR cable is brand new, so I guess it should be fine. About the reverse thing, you are talking about the way the 2nd and 3rd pin are connected, right? The label of the (5p male - 3p female) cable says: "3=+ 2=- 1=GND 4/5=N". On the EDX device is written: "1:GND 2:DATA"-" 3:DATA"+" ".
- The EDX4 is powered up
- The fuse for every channel is OK
- I don't have acces to another fixture right now, but I'll try to arrange that
- I don't have acces to another DMX controller too, but I'll try to borrow that from someone too.

.... the lightbulbs stay off.

Have you disabled Apple's FTDI driver? See Questions and answers in the online help, or check here: http://www.qlcplus.org/docs/questionsan ... -mavericks
Rinske

Yes, I made sure the left one was down and the others up :)
Rinske

That solved it! Thanks a lot!
Massimo Callegari

That Mavericks thing is the eleventh of the ten plagues of Egypt...

I should add a big-bold-black message to the DMX USB plugin info box, warning everybody that Apple sucks.
